THE MARINA, PLEASURE BOATS AND MORE

Gaia Melpignano, manager of a marina in Taranto, the Saint Eligio Quay Marina.

My name is Gaia Melpignano, and I am the manager of a marina in Taranto, the Saint Eligio Quay Marina.
My adventure within this marina started back in 2012, when my father, and my family along with some relatives decided to venture into the world of boating, taking over the management of this marina.
Molo Sant’Eligio is not just a tourist marina, it is a proper “marina”.
It is a “marina” because it is capable of offering particular activities and services provided by various organisations and cooperatives operating within our boundaries:
sailing clubs, rowing schools, canoeing schools, but particularly one organisation:
Ionian Dolphin Conservation, which starts out right from our jetties to provide search and rescue services for cetaceans in difficulty.
Marina Molo Sant’Eligio is a strategic marina, as it is located in the heart of the city of Taranto.
The Saint Eligio quay, besides offering a wide range of services and activities, is equipped with all the features that allow it to be able to accommodate boats from 6 to 60 metres, so we are talking about proper yachts.
Recently we hosted a major world event.
For the first time in Italy, and for the first time in our city, the Sail Gp.
Our small harbour played a leading role in organising and holding this event, and we are really very proud and happy to have hosted an event which, by the way, our city is worthy of hosting.
In recent years we have hosted sailors from almost every part of the world.
It really has been a great satisfaction for us, but the thing that has made me very happy, is the thing that has fascinated me so much, which is the cultural exchange the exchange of traditions, the exchange of culture and history.
This is something that has always fascinated me being able to connect with other people.
Thanks to the cooperation of the local authorities, but also of the organisations and cooperatives operating within this facility, we have succeeded in bringing the city closer to the world of the sea, and therefore in transforming the city of Taranto from a city on the sea into a city – I like to say it – of the sea.
