2nd edition of the Call for Artists “Taranto: my Port-City”:
award ceremony
TARANTO, 7 October 2022 As part of Taranto Port Days 2022 – the well-established annual event where the port opens up to citizens – the Port Authority of the Ionian Sea launched the 2nd edition of the call for artists “Taranto: my city-port”, inviting students from local primary and secondary schools to try their hand at expressing their vision of the port as they know it today as well as in a future projection through visual, performing and media arts.
AdSPMI has been promoting the dissemination of port culture among young people since years, and response to the call was not long in coming: the Authority’s premises were literally flooded with work by young artists, rich in details and realised with utmost care. The jury panel was really impressed and excited. It was composed of Roberto Settembrini, AdSPMI’s Secretary General; Noemi Frascella, employee of AdSPMI’s International Relations and Communication Section; and Antonio Covella, employee of AdSPMI’s Safety and Security Section.
In the first of the Taranto Port Days 2022, the budding artists – visibly excited to enter the port accompanied by their teachers – were able to attend the announcement of the winners of the contest and the prize giving ceremony. The jury panel unanimously declared winners:

After stepping onto the stage of the Taranto Port Days 2022, the students were able to enjoy a day definitely out of the ordinary, in the setting of Port of Taranto’s Quay 1, festively set up as a port village. They met representatives of institutional and private operators working in the port at their booths, and visited the port by both sea and land, under the expert guidance of AdSPMI’s personnel.
To conclude the process originated by the call for artists “Taranto: my port-city”, the winners received the prizes of this second edition of the contest: three mini-libraries, purposely created for the competition, inspired by the sea as a resource and presenting the principles of reuse and environmental and social sustainability.
As for the winners of the out-of-competition prize, Jonian Dolphin Conservation will offer them the opportunity to be ‘Researchers for a Day’ at Ketos (Euro-Mediterranean Center of the Sea and Cetaceans).
